Tools for Healthcare Savings from ADCES and our Partners

Affordability Resources

Diabetes affordability is top of mind for educators and people with diabetes alike. Navigating the intricacies of health insurance and patient assistance programs can be confusing, especially for someone who is already having to cope with the diagnosis of a chronic disease. Even people with the most comprehensive plans often face challenges and barriers related to access and affordability of their prescribed and preferred diabetes medications, devices and supplies. Below we've provided a series of resources that will give you tools and tips for being an effective advocate for people living with diabetes.

Starting Conversations About Cost

As a healthcare provider, you may not always be familiar with cost of care limitations that present significant barriers for your patients. By initiating conversations about out-of-pocket healthcare costs, you can take a vital step toward providing equitable and actionable care that meets the individual’s needs. ADCES partnered with Beyond Type 1 to create guidance to help you navigate this discussion. Learn more in our blog and download the document today.

Step therapy or “fail first” policies can adversely impact people with diabetes by limiting access to prescribed medication, delaying appropriate treatment and directly contributing to negative outcomes. Step therapy also undermines the unique treatment needs of individuals in order to reduce pharmacy costs and creates unnecessary barriers to individuals accessing prescribed medications in a timely manner.
